New Jersey League of Conservation Voters and New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Education fund (NJLCV) are bi-partisan, non-profit organizations that protect our precious natural resources by raising awareness of key environmental challenges; increasing the efficacy of the environmental community; helping elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices; advocating for strong environmental policies; and ensuring accountability to safeguard the health of our communities, the beauty of our state, and the strength of our economy.

We work with, learn from, and support overburdened and low-income communities in order to educate the public, co-create social change, and advocate for policy outcomes that address environmental injustices.
We are currently seeking a Policy Assistant who will work with a four-member team to help support the work of the Keep It Green (KIG) coalition, and our efforts to advance legislative initiatives in the areas of environmental justice and equity.
Responsibilities:
• Research state-level policy relating to the environment, public health, justice, and voting rights
• Support the Keep it Green Coalition, including maintaining the membership list, developing and sharing communications, organizing meetings, and other duties as assigned
• Work with the Senior Policy Manager to develop policy priorities centered on racial justice and equity, and manage relationships with elected officials, particularly on the local level
• Track legislation moving through Trenton and assist in developing strategies to advance policy priorities
• Organize meetings with elected officials, staff, and other key individuals
• Represent the organization and coalitions at meetings, hearings, and public events
• Support, organize, and prepare Senior Policy Manager for important meetings, hearings, and presentations
• Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
• Commitment to conservation, bold climate, and justice policies and an entry-level understanding of environmental issues and the legislative process
• Understanding of the New Jersey political landscape not necessary but preferred
• Commitment to racial justice and equity
• Demonstrated ability work accurately under pressure, meet deadlines and manage high volume workload
• Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail
• Dependable and able to work well in a team
• Occasional evening and weekend event attendance may be required; a valid driver license and access to a vehicle and will be necessary
Requirements:
This is a full-time position with a hybrid structure based in our Hamilton, NJ office and remotely. It is required that all employees upon hire either: (i) establish they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and its variants; or (ii) obtain an approved exemption as an accommodation, the process for which is provided by the Human Resources Department.
This position is supported by grant funding, with the strong likelihood of continuation, dependent upon additional funding and the possibility of advancement.
Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package.
