New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) is a bi-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives. The ideal Communications and Digital Intern is a creative, motivated student who has a passion for engaging and educating people about the key environmental issues impacting New Jersey. They are excited about the chance to bring their writing, research, and graphic design skills to impactful media relations and digital advocacy activities. This opportunity gives a talented student the rare chance to see the behind-the-scenes workings of environmental change makers in an exciting, energetic organization that is really making a difference.

This is a part-time paid internship from January - June, 2025.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize and get the opportunity to enhance creative writing skills by drafting media materials which may include opinion articles, news releases, media statements and social media posts on topics related to the environment, especially climate change, environmental justice, open space preservation, and stormwater management.
  • Further develop communication skills by helping conduct outreach to state public affairs TV and radio shows.
  • Utilize social media and data skills to  conduct research for digital advocacy campaigns, including identifying social media influencers and appropriate hashtags.
  • Develop digital kits, graphics, videos, and other content using your visual arts capabilities to help amplify organizational  priorities.
  • Gain an opportunity to support, identify and develop social media campaign toolkits in partnership with other environmental organizations; expand understanding of impact by monitoring campaign results, media mentions, and recording digital stats across platforms.
  • Opportunity to plan and participate in university career fairs representing New Jersey LCV.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Personable, dependable team player
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and collaboratively, and to manage short and long-term deadlines.
  • Ability to work remotely using your own phone and computer.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, Google Apps, Microsoft Office and design programs.
  • Commitment to environmental conservation, or interest in political work preferred.

The candidate must have reliable transportation, a cell phone, and a computer for the position. Interns will work remotely, as well as come to our office in Hamilton New Jersey (ideally) at least once a week, and attend events as needed. 

Compensation: Part-time internships are paid, and we are happy to work with interns for college credit. Compensation is $15 an hour, for 15 hours/week. Letters of recommendation are available upon request.
